He sits up quickly when she makes a move to stand and he's about to ask her where she thinks she's going when she plops unceremoniously back into the couch. The flash of serious concern on his face fades when she asks to stay in quiet voice.

"I wasn't kicking you out. And I really must insist that you stay. Do you want to lie down though?" He wasn't sure how the pain meds might affect her. Some people fell asleep and others just acted loopy.

He had kissed Carolyn. And it was true that he hadn't thought about Juliet when he'd done. To be fair, though, he hadn't been thinking at all at the time. It had been an impulse. Of course, the conversation afterward hadn't been an impulse, but there hadn't been any real commitments made except to see how things might go.

After he'd made sure that Carolyn had arrived at home safely, stitches still in tact, he'd gone to check on the neighbors, starting with Juliet. Standing on her porch, waiting, hoping that she'd answer the door, is when he realizes just what complications he's added to his life. So much for 'Give me space, I need to figure things out.'

He doesn't know what he'll say about what happened, but right now, he's there to check on her.

Will you walk me home? is a request he can certainly handle. So he nods and replies, "Sure."

He's at a loss for conversation so he just walks quietly with her.

Joshua had been feeling restless lately.  He wasn't sure what started it.  It wasn't anything Juliet or the children had done.  It wasn't his job which he still found fulfilling.  Perhaps it was the fact that he'd taken a much less active role with the Column in order to protect his family.  Maybe he missed the adrenaline rush from living so close to the edge.  He'd never been a thrill seeker.  At least not in his mind.  In his mind, he had always been a normal guy thrust into extraordinary circumstances.  He'd simply risen to the challenge.

Now there are no challenges.  The every day challenges of raising the children while keeping his marriage fresh, strong and alive.  The challenges his job brings.  And in the back somewhere the very real threat of being discovered by Anna.  But there's no threat of death around every corner.  No more sleepless nights worrying something he's done or being haunted by an unspeakable past.

And perhaps that is part of the problem.  He knows how very lucky he is.  He knows what he has is something most Visitors don't even bother imagining.  He knows he's the start of what the Column wanted to see happen or at least hoped could happen.  But it's hard to be a soldier your entire life and then come home to domestic life.  He's had a very good run at it, but he can feel his grip loosening.

He doesn't want to tell her.  He's hoping he's just imagining.  Even though each passing day the feeling only grows.  He's hoping maybe the Column will need him again.  That something will change, but every day it's the same thing.

Tonight, after he's tucked Elizabeth in and Juliet is feeding Jonah, he tells her he's going out for some air.  He's out there looking at the stars, missing the truth of who he is and tired of living this life that feels like he's laid down and stopped standing up for what he believes in.  And even as he knows that's not the truth, he can't stop himself from feeling it.

Friday morning meant clinic duty for Carolyn and clinic duty for Joshua later in the evening. He's had a house guest for a couple of days and he has been a most gracious host. After breakfast, Carolyn heads off for her shift and Joshua decides to stay in the Compound until his shift. He could find another book to peruse and avoid another lecture from Carolyn. Both good things as far as he is concerned.

After finding a particularly dry textbook, something right up his alley, Joshua settles down to read for a few hours. He doesn't realize how caught up he's gotten in it until something lands on the book. He looks around to find himself in the middle of the jungle. The thing that had landed on his book is a large raindrop. He's on his feet, surveying his surroundings. The rain and the jungle lead him to believe he hasn't left the island, but there's no way to confirm that. It doesn't take very long at all for Joshua to get soaked. The book is totally useless so he puts it aside.

The short sleeved green shirt with the blue gecko on it had seemed like a good idea when he'd been expecting to have clinic duty inside the dry clinic. Now he's wishing he'd at least brought his V medical coat or not left his rain coat by the door. He figures he should start walking, but he has no idea in which direction he should go or even where he is. He decides to bring the textbook just in case. At the very least, he can use it as a weapon. He looks around and all he sees is mist, rain and jungle. Finally he shrugs and sets off in one direction.

Old habits are hard to break. Despite having had a long night giving the 'Welcome to the Island' speech, Joshua wakes up as the island shifts from night sounds to day sounds. Some birds defy the rain and sing while the frogs retire to hidden places. It's quiet in the hut apart from the rain, but it would be if Juliet is reading. He stretches and gets out of bed. The floor boards creak quietly as he walks to the bedroom door. He opens it to check on her and finds that she has fallen asleep. He shakes his head as he closes the door again quietly. There had been a reason he'd been willing to give up his bed. The couch is not very comfortable.

He quietly gets ready and then goes into the living room area to find a book to read. Once he's found something suitable, he goes outside to sit on the front porch and read while he waits for Carolyn. He's careful not to wake Juliet.

Anna had troops on the ground. It was aftermath from the destruction of her eggs. Governments across the world had agreed that the Vs needed more protection. Anna hadn't really made it an option either after her little temper tantrum.

The Column had gotten word of some weapons being moved from the ship to one of the soldier locations. It was another one of those move quick, don't blink or you'll miss it operations.

Joshua nor Juliet had been filled in on this mission. It wasn't imperative nor were they required. So it was just circumstance that they happened to be driving down the road when a V shuttle exploded overhead and debris knocked into several cars barely missing their own vehicle.
